luit – Locale and ISO 2022 support for Unicode terminals
luit 是 Xorg-X11/XFree86 裡所附的一支程式,方便在 UTF-8 的 Terminal 底下,執行使用其他 locale 的應用程式
例如在 Mac OS X 底下使用終端機,但用的是 UTF-8 編碼,若我想要 telnet 連到 Big5 編碼的 BBS 站台時,出現的會是亂碼
因此,我若改用:
luit -encoding Big5 telnet bbs.sayya.org
則不會出現亂碼的狀況,也就是說:

It will convert application output from the locale’s encoding into UTF-8, and convert terminal input from UTF-8 into the locale’s encoding.
